Tsinghua University 2026 Global Research Program
To empower our students to expand global research perspectives, gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research practice and cross-cultural exchange opportunities, we are pleased to recommend the Tsinghua University 2026 Global Research Program to all students. This program is open to students holding Macao, Hong Kong or Taiwan Resident Identity Cards, as well as students with foreign nationalities.
1. Program Overview
The Tsinghua University 2026 Global Research Program adopts a Lab Immersion + Faculty Mentorship + University-Wide Platform model, offering participants an immersive research experience of no less than 6 weeks in cutting-edge fields. Admitted students will focus fully on hands-on research work throughout the program with no coursework required. They will receive one-on-one academic guidance from distinguished Tsinghua faculty, and experience authentic campus life and multicultural exchange in an immersive way.
Research themes of the program cover cutting-edge fields including Carbon Neutrality & Energy System Transformation, AI for Science and Intelligent Computing, Intelligent Manufacturing & Smart Systems, Life Sciences & Health Innovation, and Interdisciplinary Innovation & Global Collaboration.
2. Eligibility Requirements
Identity Requirement: Non-Mainland Chinese citizen or non-permanent resident of Mainland China.
Enrollment Requirement: Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at Macau University of Science and Technology (must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study before starting the program).
Academic Requirement: Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent.
Language Requirement: Proficient in English, with a TOEFL score of ≥78, an IELTS score of ≥6.0, or a Medium of Instruction Certificate (Chinese not required).
Research Requirement: Strong motivation and interest in research work.
3. Program Fees
l Tsinghua University waives tuition and application fees for this program.
l Participant is responsible for any other costs including round-trip transportation to Tsinghua University, personal visa fees, insurance premiums, accommodation and living expenses during the program, and other personal expenses.
4. Accommodation Arrangement
Tsinghua University provides on-campus accommodation for this program with a limited number of places. If on-campus accommodation is not available, participants shall make their own accommodation arrangements.
5. Program Schedule
Program Implementation Period: May to November 2026
Participants are required to commit a minimum of 6 weeks to research, with the specific schedule flexible and to be determined through negotiation between participants and the host laboratory. Applicants must ensure program participation does not conflict with their coursework at MUST and any consequences arising from such conflicts shall be borne by the applicants themselves.

6. Application Process
To complete the application, participants must independently fulfill the following two steps in accordance with the program requirements.
Step 1: Contact a Faculty Mentor
l Participants may identify potential supervisors via the program official website: https://www.tsinghua.edu.cn/gjhz/dqyjyxx.htm.
l Send an English CV and research proposal to the faculty mentor via email to obtain their approval, then proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Online Application
Participants shall submit the following application documents through the Tsinghua University online application system at http://www.gss.tsinghua.edu.cn/.
ü Curriculum Vitae (in English)
ü Research Proposal (500-1000 words, stating research interests and objectives in English)
ü Latest official academic transcript
ü Proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL ≥78, IELTS ≥6.0, or Medium of Instruction Certificate
ü Copy of passport information page (The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the
program end date and have at least two consecutive blank pages)
ü 1-2 recommendation letters provided in English
ü Published papers, awards, or supplementary materials (if applicable)
7. Important Reminders
l Students participate in this program on a voluntary basis. Please ensure personal and property safety. In case of any accidents during the program, students shall bear full responsibility, and the University shall not be held liable.
l Participants shall abide by the laws and regulations of mainland China, as well as the rules and regulations of Tsinghua University and the relevant laboratories, and safeguard the reputation of Macau University of Science and Technology.
l In accordance with the requirements of Tsinghua University, participants shall purchase comprehensive insurance covering the entire program period in mainland China on their own before the program commences, and submit the insurance proof to Tsinghua University upon registration.
